Job Summary:

SSM Health is seeking a skilled Laboratory Support Technician / Phlebotomist to join our team. As a key member of our laboratory department, you will be responsible for performing standard laboratory tasks, phlebotomy, and waived testing. Your attention to detail and ability to work in a fast-paced environment will be essential in ensuring the accuracy and efficiency of our laboratory operations.

Responsibilities:
  • Perform phlebotomy and waived testing, ensuring patient safety and comfort.
  • Load and unload lab specimens from automated and non-automated instrumentation.
  • Assist in problem requisitions and specimens, providing excellent customer service.
  • Collect, label, process, and preserve blood, urine, and other specimens according to established laboratory procedures.
  • Enter, access, and execute lab orders in the appropriate laboratory and electronic medical record system.
  • Clean and maintain laboratory supplies and work area.
  • Update statistical records, labels tubes, and schedules processing runs.
  • Perform moderate complexity testing, as required.
  • Identify patients using two identifiers, ensuring accurate patient identification.
  • Perform a variety of administrative and clerical duties, including admission activities, insurance verification, order entry processing, and medical record processing.
  • Work in a constant state of alertness and safe manner, adhering to laboratory safety protocols.
Requirements:
  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • One year of experience in a laboratory setting, preferably in phlebotomy or waived testing.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, with excellent attention to detail and customer service skills.
  • Physical ability to lift, carry, and push/pull objects weighing up to 50 pounds, with frequent sitting, standing, and walking.
