Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Vascular Technologist to join our team at Northwell Health. As a Vascular Technologist, you will play a critical role in performing vascular studies on assigned patients, maintaining equipment, and providing exceptional patient care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Patient Care:
    • Properly identify yourself and the patient prior to the start of the procedure, adhering to departmental policies and procedures.
    • Use two patient identifiers at each patient encounter.
    • Initiate and maintain quality patient care throughout the procedure, assessing and responding to individual patient needs.
    • Consider patient comfort and emotional needs, interacting courteously and respectfully in all contacts.
    • Explain the procedure and requirements to the patient and family members, within a reasonable amount of time, prior to beginning the procedure.
    • Answer questions competently.
    • Review the Ultrasound/Vascular order against the physician's referral or patient medical record to ensure correctness and appropriateness of the procedure ordered.
    • Establish effective communication with the patient and/or family members to successfully complete the procedure.
    • Keep the patient and/or family members informed of progress and/or delays associated with their procedure.
    • Contribute to the team approach to provide the best possible patient care and services.
    • Interface with patients, staff, and physicians to facilitate the improvement of the patient experience.
    • Work to improve Press Ganey scores via patient satisfaction.
  • Infection Control:
    • Follow department procedures for cleaning and disinfecting external transducers.
    • Follow department procedures for sending/receiving internal transducers to Central Sterile for high-level disinfection.
    • Keep the room/work station neat, orderly, and clean per IC and department standards.
    • Practice sterile technique and prevent cross-contamination during special procedures.
  • Clinical / Technical Skills:
    • Perform ultrasound/vascular procedures, including abdominal, OB/GYN, neuro-sonology, pediatric, vascular physiologic evaluations, vascular duplex, intra-operative duplex, and ultrasound-guided biopsy.
    • Perform general ultrasound examinations following ACR Ultrasound Standards and departmental policies.
    • Perform vascular ultrasound and vascular physiologic testing examinations following ICAVL Standards and departmental policies.
    • Adjust technical factors appropriately to the patient and body part being examined.
    • Assist physicians with special procedures requiring ultrasound guidance, such as biopsies, aspirations, and pseudoaneurysm injections.
    • Record patient history and pertinent clinical data related to the procedure.
    • Perform a brief physical exam, including auscultation of bruits, bilateral blood pressure measurement, visual observations for physical signs of ischemia, etc., based on clinical symptoms.
    • Document the same in IDX technologist notes' fields.
    • Appropriately and accurately label all images with regard to side, organ, quadrant, vessel, patient position, and transducer orientation.
    • Demonstrate cross-sectional anatomy through proper patient positioning and transducer selection.
    • Review images for identification, technique, and completeness prior to verifying them in PACS.
    • Consistently complete the Vascular Preliminary Report Form per department policy.
    • Transport patients when necessary to expedite workflow and enhance the patient experience.
    • Perform physiologic arterial testing of upper/lower extremities utilizing analogue waveforms.
    Qualifications
    • Graduate from an accredited Ultrasound Technologist program, required.
    • Bachelor's Degree, preferred.
    • Registered ARDMS in abdominal/pelvic ultrasound and RVT in Vascular Technology, required.
    • Minimum one (1) year hospital experience as an Ultrasound Technologist, required.
