Position Overview

The Museum School of Avondale Estates is in search of a dedicated and enthusiastic Elementary Education Instructor for a temporary assignment. The ideal candidate will possess the ability to create and execute tailored lesson plans that cater to various ability levels and learning preferences, ensuring that all activities are engaging, interactive, and in accordance with the Georgia Standards of Excellence. Furthermore, the instructor should foster a classroom atmosphere that values and celebrates diversity.

The Museum School combines the accessibility of a public education with the innovative organizational and curricular approach of a museum school model. By starting at the community level, students build a strong sense of belonging, independence, accountability, and respect for the consequences of their choices and actions on others. These competencies will empower them with the confidence to tackle challenges at both local and global scales.

Key Responsibilities

  • Delivering instruction based on the museum school framework, curriculum differentiation guidelines, and best practices.
  • Enhancing student growth and achievement through the development and implementation of lessons and activities tailored to individual needs and learning styles.
  • Collaborating with school and museum staff to design thematic units, schedule Learning Expeditions, and prepare for Exhibit Nights.
  • Analyzing student data to identify strengths and areas for improvement, utilizing this information to guide instructional strategies.
  • Monitoring student progress through both formal and informal assessments.
  • Reflecting on personal growth and creating a Professional Growth Plan.
  • Establishing a proactive, consistent, and effective classroom management system.
  • Engaging in Professional Development workshops and opportunities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Education or related field.
  • Georgia certification in the relevant area of education.
  • Experience in integrating curriculum, Georgia Standards of Excellence, and effective teaching methodologies.
  • Proficiency in developing standards-based lessons, units, and assessments.
  • Strong organizational, planning, and implementation skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Degree in Education.
  • Gifted certification.
  • Familiarity with various instructional methodologies.
  • Experience working with a diverse student population.
  • Experience with Readers, Writers, and Math Workshop preferred.
  • Ability to make data-informed instructional decisions.
