Position Overview
The Sommelier plays a pivotal role in enhancing the dining experience for our guests. As the beverage authority, the Sommelier ensures exceptional service standards and assists in various aspects of the dining process, including glassware preparation, food service, and table maintenance. Additionally, the Sommelier collaborates with the Lead Sommelier on cellar management, inventory control, and conducting weekly wine education sessions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Warmly greet and welcome guests to foster a friendly atmosphere.
- Guide guests in selecting wines and uphold beverage service excellence.
- Promote dessert wines, non-alcoholic options, and take-home selections.
- Ensure seamless communication between departments during service.
- Support the Lead Sommelier in providing ongoing beverage training and education for the team.
- Maintain organization and cleanliness of the cellar, eurocave, and wine fridge.
- Keep an accurate inventory of the wine list, storage locations, and takeaways.
- Assist with the monthly inventory of glassware and beverages.
- Help with the receiving, storing, and organization of wine.
- Monitor pour levels to minimize waste and alert the Lead Sommelier of any corked or faulty wines.
- Engage in continuous tasting, research, and industry involvement.
- Collaborate with the Lead Sommelier on the creation of non-alcoholic beverages.
- Mentor and develop junior staff members.
- Execute opening and closing duties, including cash and credit card reconciliations.
- Complete any remaining side work tasks assigned to other associates.
- Anticipate and respond to unexpected guest needs promptly and tactfully.
- Notify management of any repair or maintenance issues related to the cellar and beverage areas.
- Attend training sessions and meetings as required.
- Work collaboratively with staff and management to maximize the restaurant's potential.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 2 years of experience as a sommelier in a Michelin-starred fine dining environment.
- Comprehensive knowledge of food and beverages, particularly French wines and cuisine.
- Proficient in G Suite and inventory management systems.
- Strong leadership skills with a commitment to sustainability and excellence.
- Passion for teaching and fostering professional growth.
- Effective problem-solving, multitasking, and delegation abilities.
- Initiative and follow-through on tasks.
