Position Overview

Hawk Link is in search of outstanding student leaders who are enthusiastic about assisting new students in their transition to university life. As integral members of the Hawk Link Success Team, these leaders will actively contribute to the academic and professional journeys of incoming students by serving as mentors, role models, and community builders.

This role involves participation in a comprehensive transition program designed to enhance the experience of new students. Selected leaders will engage in training and events aimed at fostering connections and providing essential guidance.

Role Responsibilities

The selected Student Leaders will:

  • Facilitate sessions that help students forge friendships and establish campus connections. (25%)
  • Introduce college fundamentals, including expectations and interactions with faculty. (25%)
  • Guide students in understanding their values and their relevance to career pathways. (10%)
  • Provide insights into essential academic skills necessary for success in college. (10%)
  • Assist students in navigating university technology resources. (10%)
  • Offer support regarding well-being services available on campus. (10%)
  • Teach effective time management strategies, including balancing academic and work commitments. (10%)
Eligibility Criteria

To qualify for this position, candidates must meet the following requirements:

  • Be a full-time student in good academic standing.
  • Have achieved sophomore status or higher by the summer of the program.
  • Maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.50 throughout the employment period.
  • Be enrolled in at least 6 credit hours during the semester of appointment.

Ideal candidates will possess:

  • Strong verbal and non-verbal communication skills.
  • Experience presenting to diverse groups.
  • The ability to connect effectively with students, faculty, and staff.
  • A demonstrated sense of responsibility, positive attitude, and teamwork.

  • Personal experience overcoming challenges faced by first-generation and low-income students.
