Position Summary:
Reporting to the Senior Manager of Communications and Policy, the Coordinator for Communications and Advocacy will leverage exceptional writing, research, and organizational skills to support AccessMatters' ongoing communications and advocacy initiatives. This role is integral to the Communications and Policy team within the Strategic Initiatives department and will involve participation in departmental meetings and activities as required. This is a full-time, non-exempt position.
Key Responsibilities:
The Coordinator for Communications and Advocacy will:
Enhance AccessMatters' Visibility in Public Policy Discussions By:
- Collaborating with the Senior Manager of Communications and Policy and management team to create and execute a comprehensive policy agenda at the city, regional, and national levels to promote sexual and reproductive health objectives; updating the agenda annually in partnership with the Senior Manager.
- Maintaining a legislative policy tracker to monitor relevant bills and recommending actionable opportunities.
- Assisting in the development and execution of inclusive strategies to engage and mobilize supporters and constituents, including coordinating educational programs and outreach efforts.
- Building and strengthening partnerships with organizations focused on similar issues; representing AccessMatters in local and state coalitions, conferences, and task forces as necessary.
- Conducting research related to issues pertinent to current or future communications and advocacy efforts.
- Supporting the Youth Advocacy Board of adolescent health equity projects by educating and mentoring youth in advocacy skills.
Utilize Strong Writing and Organizational Skills to Produce Timely Advocacy Communications By:
- Assisting in the daily implementation of communications and advocacy efforts, including communications planning, drafting social media content, preparing written remarks, compiling reports, developing policy briefs, and updating website content.
- Collaborating with the Senior Manager to create inclusive messaging for various presentations and written communications.
- Assisting in the development of communications materials on sensitive topics with quick turnaround times, including media talking points, action alerts, public comments, and social media content.
- Creating and maintaining online advocacy toolkits for external stakeholders to enhance visibility and advocacy on key issues.
Provide Operational Support for Communications and Advocacy Needs:
- Crafting and scheduling social media content and managing online interactions.
- Supporting staff with brand and messaging training to ensure brand fidelity.
- Providing regular updates to staff, board members, and providers on communications and advocacy initiatives.
- Maintaining contact databases for key policy influencers, elected officials, and media contacts.
- Assisting with development and fundraising activities, including drafting content for proposals and identifying potential funders.
- Participating in fundraising efforts to support advocacy work.
- Performing administrative tasks and other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
- Exceptional written and oral communication skills, with the ability to synthesize complex topics into clear, accessible messages.
- Proficiency in social media management and analytics, including experience with scheduling software and content creation tools.
- Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite and website production software is preferred.
- Knowledge of federal, state, and local laws affecting our mission.
- Passion for expanding access to sexual and reproductive health care and related public health issues.
- Ability to work effectively in a multi-cultural and multi-disciplinary team environment.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
- Willingness to travel and work in the field as needed.
- Eligibility for all mandatory clearances required for the position.
Education and Experience:
- A Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in political science, public administration, public policy, health communications, or a related field is required.
- We welcome applications from recent graduates; however, candidates should ideally have a minimum of 2 years of experience in nonprofit communications, advocacy, or public policy.
Salary: $50,000.00
