Supervising Criminalist

Join the County of Santa Clara CA team as a Supervising Criminalist and play a crucial role in maintaining public safety by analyzing evidence and providing expert testimony in court. As a Supervising Criminalist, you will oversee the day-to-day activities of a forensic specialty unit, ensuring that all work is completed accurately and efficiently.
Key Responsibilities:- Manage and supervise the activities of a forensic specialty unit, including DNA analysis, forensic biology, and crime scene investigation.
- Develop and implement laboratory systems, procedures, and techniques to ensure the highest level of accuracy and efficiency.
- Oversee research and experimentation to develop and improve analytical methods and procedures.
- Prepare statistical reports of work performed in the forensic specialty areas.
- Consult and advise law enforcement regarding the nature of evidence, laboratory analysis, and interpretation.
- Interpret findings for the courts and other legal hearings.
- Write reports and standard operating procedures outlining methods and results.
- Ensure proper compliance and reporting with regulatory agencies.
- Evaluate and manage requests for analytical examinations and reviews case files and reports to ensure quality control.
- Possession of a Bachelor's Degree in a natural or applied science or in a related field.
- Five (5) years increasingly responsible experience in the practice of criminalistics, one (1) year of which is equivalent to a Criminalist III in the County of Santa Clara.
- Possession of a valid California Driver's License prior to appointment and the ability to obtain and maintain a County driver's authorization.
- A Master's Degree or higher in a natural or applied science or related field may be substituted for one (1) year of the required general experience.
- Lead or supervisory experience is desirable.
