Museum Curatorial Specialist
Position Overview
This role is open to various eligible candidates, including current and former federal employees, individuals with disabilities, military spouses, and others under special authorities.
Key Responsibilities
This is a career-seasonal position that follows specific release and recall protocols. While it includes the benefits of permanent employment, it does not guarantee year-round work. Selected individuals will experience a non-pay/non-duty status (October) for a duration of 2 weeks to 6 months annually, depending on project needs or weather conditions. Employees are assured a minimum of 6 months of work per year, not exceeding 50 weeks, with the work schedule established upon appointment. The typical operational season for the organization is from March through October, though variations may occur based on project demands or environmental factors.
The incumbent will function as a museum technician within a museum facility of a National Park Service organization. The primary objective of this position is to execute a comprehensive range of intricate curatorial support tasks within a museum setting.
The technician's duties are generally associated with and supportive of a professional field; the work may encompass significant aspects of the professional domain but necessitates less than complete expertise in the field. This position is designed to report to a specialist or resource manager in the same or a related discipline. If the incumbent does not receive supervision from a professional specialist (such as an archivist or curator), technical guidance must be sought from a specialist in a central office or center.
This position is differentiated from similar roles at the GS-06 level by the requirement for greater knowledge, experience, and judgment to complete a variety of conventional projects of relatively limited scope; independently address problems with established precedents; select the most suitable course of action from multiple alternatives for planning and executing work; and apply a broad range of conventional methods and solutions to new challenges. Consequently, this role has a wider scope and impact, directly influencing the design, operation, and effectiveness of cultural resource activities.

- Training and maintenance of a government charge card for travel and/or purchase authority may be necessary.
