We are seeking a highly skilled Associate Veterinarian to join our team at Smithfield Foods. As a key member of our animal health team, you will be responsible for promoting process improvement and disease prevention to ensure the health and well-being of our swine herd.
Key Responsibilities- Monitor key indicators and formulate intervention strategies to improve system health using CQI/SPC methods.
- Examine animals to determine the nature of disease or injury and develop treatment plans.
- Treat animals surgically or medically and perform routine health checks.
- Test animals for herd health monitoring and inoculate them against diseases and other disorders.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local health and welfare regulations.
- Advise and teach managers and employees on sanitary measures, feeding, and general care to promote animal health.
- Promote teamwork with all production segments to focus on system mission.
- Oversee and provide guidance on animal health regulatory issues associated with production and movement of swine.
- Evaluate new technologies and products as they impact production and animal health.
- Establish and maintain relationships with academics, animal health organizations, and political/health organizations.
- Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree from an accredited school.
- Eligibility to practice veterinary medicine in states where farms are located within 6 months of hire.
- Current and valid driver's license with acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR).
- Proven working knowledge of Microsoft Office Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Ability to work well with others in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Strong commitment to teamwork and a positive work environment.

- Frequent climbing over, under, and around penning.
- Walking and standing on concrete for 3 to 4 hours per day.
- Lifting 50 pounds on a limited basis.
- Occasional work in situations two feet above the floor in a leaned-over or squatted position.
- Tolerance for blood, animal dander, manure, dust, odors, and noisy conditions.
