Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Obstetrical Surgical Tech to join our team at Rush University Medical Center. As an Obstetrical Surgical Tech, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional patient care and supporting our surgical team in the Labor and Delivery department.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in patient care, surgical services, and delivery room services under the supervision of a registered nurse.
  • Carry out the function of the scrub role during surgical procedures, assist in deliveries, and maintain the supplies and equipment necessary for the specialized care of Obstetrical patients.
  • Exemplify the Rush mission, vision, and values and act in accordance with Rush policies and procedures.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Analytical ability.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Must be able to interact effectively with others in difficult situations.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technologist program preferred (except current Obstetrical Surgical Techs as of 9/1/2013).
Physical Demands
  • Work requires the ability to walk throughout the Medical Center and to be standing or walking most of the designated shift.
  • Work requires lifting or carrying objects 35-40lbs. and lifting and positioning patients, some of whom may exceed 300 lbs.
  • The ability to check documents for errors and use a keyboard to enter or retrieve data.
  • Work conditions include performing procedures where carelessness could result in injury or illness and contact with potentially infectious materials and/or strong chemical agents.
Responsibilities
  • Apply the correct principles of aseptic technique.
  • Establish and protect the integrity of the sterile field and back table at all times.
  • Recognize breaks in technique by self and others. Take corrective action and report events to RN in room.
  • Handle/secures instruments, cords and draping materials utilizing aseptic technique.
