Job Summary

The Compensation Consultant will provide expert guidance, utilizing extensive knowledge and technical skills in compensation systems and methodologies. This role involves collaborating with clients to assess departmental work designs, establishing job families, and advising on strategic workforce planning. The consultant will partner with the Director of Compensation and Benefits to formulate organization-wide compensation policies and practices. Additionally, this position is responsible for analyzing and reporting compensation metrics to inform senior leadership recommendations.

Essential Responsibilities

Workforce Planning Consultation
  • Engages with clients to provide insights on workforce planning aligned with organizational needs and optimal workflow design.
  • Advises clients on effective job design and the alignment of responsibilities within job family profiles.
Compensation Plan Governance
  • Collaborates with HR leadership to facilitate meetings and presentations for the Compensation Advisory Committee.
  • Contributes as a key member of the Compensation Design Committee.
Policy and Procedure Development
  • Involved in the creation, administration, and maintenance of compensation-related policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with applicable laws and alignment with internal standards.
Re-organization Consultation
  • Participates as a vital member of the re-organization consultation team to support significant organizational changes.
  • Acts as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in workforce planning, workflow design, and position definition.
Coaching and Partnering/Collaboration
  • Works closely with other HR teams on the design, policy development, and implementation of key compensation initiatives.
  • Provides coaching to Compensation Analysts within the team.
  • Proactively collaborates with key stakeholders across HR, IT, and Finance to manage changes in compensation programs and policies, ensuring comprehensive alignment and awareness of impacts.
Position Requirements

Minimum Qualifications - An equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute for the requirements listed.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources, Business, or a related field.
  • A minimum of 8 years of demonstrated experience in compensation or a related field.
  • Understanding of employment and labor laws and regulations pertaining to compensation and job design.
  • Advanced knowledge of internal and external market analysis theories and principles.
  • Ability to consult effectively with clients regarding workforce planning activities.
  • Experience in identifying and resolving systemic issues related to workforce planning, job design, or compensation analysis.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills for preparing comprehensive documents and presentations.
  • Experience in guiding and consulting with individuals, managers, and senior leaders.
  • Analytical skills to review statistical results and provide meaningful recommendations.
  • Proficiency in HR Systems (Workday preferred), spreadsheets, word processing, data management, and presentation applications.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills to handle competing priorities.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with HR Systems that include compensation process functionality such as Workday (preferred), Ultipro, or PeopleSoft.
  • Certification as a Certified Compensation Professional (CCP) by WorldatWork is preferred.
Physical and Mental Requirements
  • Frequent desk-based computer tasks and light manipulation, along with verbal communication.
  • Occasional standing, walking, and writing by hand, with the ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to 10 pounds.
  • Rarely involves twisting, bending, or reaching above shoulder height.
Working Conditions
  • This position may require travel to various locations to conduct business.
  • Work is typically conducted in an office environment with potential non-standard workplaces.
  • Standard working hours are Monday through Friday.
