Civil Engineer II Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled Civil Engineer II to join our team at Clark Nexsen. As a key member of our design team, you will be responsible for assisting in various aspects of civil engineering projects, working under the supervision and guidance of a licensed Civil Engineer.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform civil design tasks, including conceptual studies, design analyses, calculations, and site design for buildings or subdivisions.
  • Prepare programming documents, schematic documents, design development documents, and construction documents as directed.
  • Coordinate and communicate with design team members to ensure civil design details integrate properly with other project disciplines.
  • Prepare marketing and presentation materials as directed.
  • Perform civil services associated with the bidding process, including preparing addenda and amendments and opening and tabulating bids.
  • Perform civil services associated with the construction phase, including field visits, answering RFIs, reviewing shop drawings, and preparing record drawings.
  • Comply with quality control policies and procedures.
  • Learn and implement department and company standards.
  • Develop analysis and design skills.
  • Participate in team meetings and coordinate efforts with other team members.
  • Work with senior engineers, project managers, and design managers to achieve project goals.
Project Responsibilities:
  • Perform tasks as directed by senior staff.
  • Responsible for document organization and clarity.
  • Responsible for discipline drawing coordination.
  • Complete sections and details produced to a schematic-level of completion by the engineer.
  • Create schematic-level site layout and grading plans for projects of low to moderate complexity.
  • Create schematic-level roadway layout and grading plans.
  • Develop manual calculations and analytical models for civil analysis and design purposes.
  • Participate in developing a model of the site design and utilities in Civil 3D on projects where modeling is a requirement.
  • Assist with preparing LEED templates on projects where LEED certification is a requirement.
  • Adhere to project budget and schedule.
Requirements:
  • Graduate of an ABET-accredited 4-, 5-, or 6-year engineering program in civil engineering or a related field.
  • Post-graduate degree in civil engineering or a related field may be given additional consideration.
  • Completed or be in a position to complete the Fundamentals of Engineering Exam and all other state requirements for certification as an EIT is preferred.
  • 2-4 years of specific, post-graduation, civil engineering experience, including experience with designing a site, roadway, subdivision, or utilities.
  • Pursuing Professional Engineer licensure (PE) within 36 months of being hired.
  • Understanding of sustainable design principles and design practices and pursuing LEED AP accreditation is desirable.
  • Additional certifications such as CDT, CCS, or CCCA are encouraged to reflect personal growth in the profession and an ever-increasing knowledge base to enhance the design and documentation process.
  • Active membership in NSPE, ASCE, or other related professional organizations is desirable.

Physical Requirements:

The work is sedentary and often performed in an office setting. The work area is lighted, heated, and ventilated. This position may require extended periods of standing, sitting, as well as some repetitive movements, bending, and lifting of minimal weight. Workplace Flexibility:

We have selected two common days in the office to nurture collaboration and innovation and to support learning and growth through engagement with colleagues. We are asking everyone to be present on Mondays and Thursdays, with a required third day that will provide additional flexibility and be set between you and your supervisor (with consideration given to your project team members and clients).
