Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Vehicle Driver III to join our team at the Texas Department of Aging & Disability Services. The successful candidate will be responsible for driving state agency trucks and cargo vans to deliver and pickup large items, providing mail pickup and small package delivery, and performing warehouse duties including tracking inventory and surplus state property.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Drive state agency trucks and cargo vans to deliver and pickup large items, including furniture, filing cabinets, IT and telecommunications equipment, boxed file records, packages, business supplies, surplus state property, and emergency office equipment.
  • Provide mail pickup and small package delivery while on routine delivery route to HHS offices in region.
  • Perform warehouse duties, including tracking inventory and surplus state property, operating motorized equipment for moving and storing warehouse items, and monitoring stock levels.
  • Assemble and install furniture and equipment ordered by and delivered to HHS customers, and adjust modular furniture installations to adapt to customer needs.
  • Perform minor building repairs and maintenance, such as painting, plumbing fixture adjustments, ceiling tile replacement, and assist with office moves by carrying, loading, transporting, and unloading office contents between HHS office locations.
  • Oversee and direct activities of contractors hired for moves and modular furniture installation, and assist in the regional Quick Copy center with printing, copying, and delivery of requested documents.
  • Function as a member of the Regional Disaster Deployment Team in delivering, setting up, and monitoring emergency equipment to disaster areas.

Requirements:
  • Knowledge of motor vehicle operations and basic maintenance, including safe cargo loading and unloading methods.
  • Knowledge of State and Federal traffic rules and regulations for cargo and mail delivery.
  • Knowledge of warehousing procedures, including safe use of motorized equipment for moving and securing materials.
  • Ability to obey State and Federal traffic laws and follow safe practices in loading and unloading cargo.
  • Ability to prepare accurate records documenting vehicle maintenance, mileage, and usage, and compile data and perform basic mathematical computations.
  • Ability to operate specialized equipment, such as a postage meter, copier equipment, bindery equipment, or similar.
  • Ability to understand and utilize documentation systems, such as CAPPS and CAFM.
  • Ability to operate warehouse equipment, such as a forklift, pallet jack, dolly.
  • Ability to lift, pull, push, and/or carry 50 pounds.
  • Ability to perform basic building maintenance or repair, such as painting, caulking, changing light bulbs.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written directions for completing tasks, assembling basic items.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with customers, peers, and managers.
  • Ability to travel locally and across the state, which can include overnight stays.

Working Conditions:
  • Work is performed in a variety of environments, both inside and outside, and may require extended hours and travel.
  • May be required to work in a fast-paced environment with multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • May be required to lift, carry, push, or pull heavy objects or equipment.
  • May be required to work at heights or in confined spaces.
