Health Physicist Position

The Veterans Affairs, Veterans Health Administration is seeking a highly skilled Health Physicist to join our team. As a key member of our organization, you will be responsible for performing professional work of marked difficulty requiring extended professional training skills. Your expertise will be essential in optimizing diagnostic imaging in accordance with ACR Quality Control Manuals.
Key Responsibilities
- Apply health physics principles in a medical environment to ensure radiation safety and quality control.
- Collaborate with physicians, technologists, and biomedical engineers to optimize diagnostic imaging.
- Perform physics testing for various modalities, including X-ray radiography, fluoroscopy, CT, nuclear medicine, PET, MRI, and ultrasound.
- Assist the Radiation Officer in providing direction and technical guidance to staff.
- Manage contracts related to personnel dosimetry and x-ray machine performance evaluations.
Requirements
- Master's degree in natural science or engineering with a focus on health physics, radiological science, or a related field.
- At least 1 year of specialized experience in health physics, including understanding and applying health physics principles, identifying and evaluating radiation hazards, and interpreting federal regulations and standards.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse teams.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret data and make informed decisions.
