Job Overview

The U.S. Department of Energy's (DOE) Science, Technology, and Policy (STP) Program is seeking highly skilled individuals to participate in policy-related projects in Washington, D.C.

This fellowship program aims to provide opportunities for scientists and engineers to engage in innovation and collaboration in clean energy initiatives.

Job Description

We are looking for talented and innovative individuals to work with the Geothermal Technologies Office (GTO) on various subprograms:

Data, Modeling, and Analysis Team

The Data, Modeling, and Analysis team takes a holistic analytical approach across GTO's technology portfolio, aiming to enable further deployment of geothermal resources.

  • Identifying strategies for overcoming policy and regulatory barriers to deploying more geothermal power in the U.S.
  • Researching and designing implementation strategies for quantifying the value of geothermal energy through engagement with stakeholders.
  • Expanding the depth and breadth of geothermal representation and contributions to DOE techno-economic models.
Hydrothermal Team

The Hydrothermal subprogram supports R&D that can lower cost and risk throughout the lifecycle of a hydrothermal project, bringing more hydrothermal power online.

  • Supporting R&D for extracting critical materials or other strategic minerals from geothermal brines.
EGS Team

The EGS team focuses on gaining an evidence-based understanding of basic and applied science challenges surrounding long-term subsurface heat flow and permeability enhancement.

  • Strengthening the body of EGS knowledge through RD&D to enable industry to develop a baseload energy resource.
Low Temperature Team

The Low Temperature subprogram supports R&D on direct use of thermal resources for process and space heating applications.

  • Supporting research on geothermal heat pumps, district-scale geothermal heating and cooling systems, and deep direct use geothermal resource development.
Benefits

Selected candidates will receive a competitive stipend, estimated at $90,000 per year, based on their academic and professional background.

A travel and research allowance of $10,000 will also be available to participants for each appointment year.

Requirements

Candidates must have a bachelor's degree in a relevant field and possess excellent analytical and communication skills.

The participant will not enter into an employee/employer relationship with ORISE, ORAU, DOE, or any other office or agency.
