Nursing Department Supervisor

This position is located in the Nursing Department of the LA Veterans Home in Jackson, Louisiana. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing first-line supervision of nursing services, either in a clinical, educational, or programmatic setting. The supervisor will oversee the activities of lower-level registered nurses, paraprofessional and/or professional personnel, and ensure that patient care standards are maintained.

The ideal candidate will possess a valid Louisiana license or temporary permit to practice professional nursing, as well as three years of professional nursing experience. A baccalaureate degree in nursing will substitute for one year of the required experience. The supervisor will be responsible for planning, developing, and overseeing the implementation of programs and courses to meet specific or general needs for orientation and ongoing training of staff.

The successful candidate will also be responsible for directing nursing staff development and in-service education, establishing long-term goals and objectives for staff development and education, and determining needs for training through direct observation, results of quality assurance reviews, and consultation with other supervisors and directors.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide first-line supervision of nursing services
  • Oversee the activities of lower-level registered nurses, paraprofessional and/or professional personnel
  • Maintain patient care standards
  • Plan, develop, and oversee the implementation of programs and courses for staff development and education
  • Direct nursing staff development and in-service education
  • Determine needs for training through direct observation and consultation with other supervisors and directors

Requirements:

  • Valid Louisiana license or temporary permit to practice professional nursing
  • Three years of professional nursing experience
  • Baccalaureate degree in nursing (substitutes for one year of experience)

Working Conditions:

This position is located in the Nursing Department of the LA Veterans Home in Jackson, Louisiana. The successful candidate will be required to work in a fast-paced environment, providing high-quality patient care and supervision to nursing staff.
