Job DescriptionThe successful candidate will assist teaching personnel in supervising and instructing special education students, perform classroom clerical tasks, and provide support with daily living skills. Key responsibilities include:
- Communicating with parents to schedule meetings and take messages for special education teachers;
- Maintaining students' files and records, documenting activities, and providing reliable information;
- Monitoring individual students in classrooms, schools, and community settings to ensure a safe and positive learning environment;
- Performing record-keeping and clerical functions, such as scheduling, copying, and supporting teachers and administrators in providing records and materials;
- Adapting to changing work priorities, displaying tact and courtesy, meeting deadlines and schedules, setting priorities, being attentive to detail, and working with detailed information/data;
- Supporting students in various settings, including special education classrooms, general education classrooms, one-on-one instruction, and adapting classroom work under the direction of the teacher to support and reinforce lesson plans;
- Providing accommodations for students, such as reading tests aloud, scribing, alternate locations for assessments, check-in/check-out support, and implementing instructional behavioral programs in accordance with lesson plans to improve students' academic success;
- Assisting with daily living skills, demonstrating skills, and providing needed care on an occasional basis;
- Duties as assigned by the building administrator or special education department for the benefit of special education students;
- Regular attendance at work is critical.
To be successful in this role, you should possess:
- A High School diploma or equivalent;
- Two years of college, a bachelor's degree, or ParaPro Praxis (if Title I school);
- Job-related experience preferred.
