Job Summary

UPMC Magee-Womens Hospital is seeking a full-time Lead MRI Technologist to support the MRI Department in Oakland. As a key member of the team, you will be responsible for coordinating workflow, assisting with projects, and coordinating educational activities.

The successful candidate will have a strong background in MRI technology and excellent leadership skills. They will be responsible for leading orientation and training for new hires, students, and other medical personnel, ensuring competencies are completed in the required timeframe.

The Lead MRI Technologist will primarily work 8-hour daylight shifts, Monday through Friday, with some occasional on-call coverage to support vacant shifts. This role functions as a working technologist, distributing workload to ensure efficient operations.

Responsibilities:

  • Performs all job responsibilities of Level II MRI Advanced Technologist and maintains MR safety in the department.
  • Addresses patient safety through proper patient identification, labeling/preparation/administration of contrast and communicating according to standard operating procedures.
  • Completes procedures according to protocol while presenting relevant information to physician, and updates and documents patient information into rad assessment.
  • Leads orientation and training for new hires, students, and other medical personnel, ensuring competencies are completed in the required timeframe.
  • Responsible for offering remediation with technologists, when necessary.
  • Assists with quality assurance projects and assists in the development of exam protocols alongside of or in place of Advanced Level II MRI Tech and communicates results back to departmental leadership.
  • Coordinates daily workflow and schedule of the department while maintaining staffing levels based on, but not limited to, call-offs, vacations, patient volumes, and training needs.
  • Assumes the leadership role in the absence of the supervisor.
  • Assists in talent acquisition interviews for successful recruitment of MRI Technologist candidates and provides feedback for annual performance reviews.

Requirements:

  • Completion of formal training in MRI-related program accredited by the ARRT or ARMRIT or CNMT program or accredited ARDMS program.
  • 3 years of MRI experience required.
  • Performance review consistent with minimum of strong/solid/good performance on last performance review required.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

  • ARRT or ARMRIT MR Certified required. CPR or BLS Required. CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire.
  • ARRT Certificate OR ARRT Certificate OR Nuclear Medicine Technologist Certification (NMTC) OR Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
  • Act 34
