Key Responsibilities- Review and code principal and secondary diagnoses and procedures documented in medical records, ancillary reports, and other relevant documents.
- Collaborate with primary care staff to optimize coding of records and ensure accurate reimbursement.
- Communicate with physicians and staff to clarify documentation and resolve coding discrepancies.
- Perform data entry of diagnostic and procedural codes into practice management systems.
- Review system reports for undiagnosed accounts and follow up with missing or incomplete documentation.
- Stay up-to-date on Medicare Local Medical Review policies for diagnostic coding of ancillary services.
- Participate in quality assessment and improvement activities, adhering to facility and department policies and procedures.
- Maintain confidentiality of work-related medical record documentation and conversations.
- Graduate of a Certified Health Information Technology or Certified Medical Coder program, with certification by the American Health Information Management Association or the American Academy of Professional Coders.
- Successful certification within one year of hire, with AHIMA or AAPC certification.
- Experience with electronic health records or practice management systems preferred.
- Thorough knowledge of ICD-10-CM and CPT coding systems, medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with ability to develop and maintain relationships with clinicians and staff.
