Compensation
The estimated salary for this role is competitive and includes a 6% premium pay. This represents only a portion of the total compensation package, which may also include differentials, incentives, and bonuses. Additionally, this position may qualify for participation and contributions to the Kern County Employees' Retirement Plan.
Role Overview:
Under the supervision of a Registered Nurse or physician, the Monitor Technician is responsible for observing patients' electrocardiographic (ECG) rhythms, identifying and reporting arrhythmias and alarms to nursing and medical staff.
Key Responsibilities:
- Continuously monitor ECG devices and report any dysrhythmias and alarms to appropriate medical personnel.
- Maintain accurate records of cardiac rhythms for patients on telemetry monitoring.
- Print and document ECG strips at specified intervals, validating computer readouts and logging data.
- Ensure cleanliness and functionality of equipment, including cardiac monitors and telemetry devices, and report any maintenance issues.
- Manage patient admissions, transfers, and discharges from telemetry monitoring.
- Maintain accurate medical records, including rhythm strips and measurements.
- Assist in coordinating patient care services and relay information to relevant departments.
- Participate in continuous education initiatives and remain current with training specific to cardiac monitoring.
- Adhere to safety protocols and maintain personal protective equipment standards.
- Communicate effectively with nursing staff regarding patient alarm settings and requirements.
A High School Diploma or GED is required. Candidates must have successfully completed a State of California Department of Health Services approved Nursing Assistant or Medical Assistant program, or possess relevant experience in a healthcare setting. Previous experience as a Monitor Technician is preferred.
Additional Requirements:
Within 60 days of employment, candidates must complete the Kern Medical ECG course and pass the competency exam with a minimum score of 90%. Annual maintenance of ECG competency is required. Employees must also obtain and maintain American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
Skills:
Ability to perform non-professional nursing tasks, accurately record medical terminology, and demonstrate proficiency in electronic medical records. Candidates should possess strong communication skills and the ability to maintain effective relationships with medical staff and the public. Physical requirements include the ability to stand, bend, squat, and lift patients as necessary.
Note:
A background check may be required for this position. All employees are designated as "Disaster Service Workers" and are expected to report to work during emergencies.
