Kern Community College District is seeking a part-time English as Second Language (ESL) instructor to teach beginning to advanced ESL courses in prison and/or county detention centers.

Job Summary:

The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching ESL courses, developing curriculum, and participating in recruitment and articulation activities with local schools, colleges, and universities.

Responsibilities:
  • Teach ESL courses in prison and/or county detention centers
  • Develop curriculum for ESL courses
  • Participate in recruitment and articulation activities with local schools, colleges, and universities
  • Communicate effectively with students, colleagues, and administrators
  • Maintain subject matter currency and assess student learning outcomes
Requirements:
  • Master's degree in TESL, TESOL, applied linguistics, or a related field
  • OR Bachelor's degree in TESL, TESOL, English, or a related field with a TESL certificate
  • OR The equivalent combination of education and experience
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience teaching ESL courses in a prison or detention center setting
  • Knowledge of curriculum development and instructional design
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse student populations
