Minimum Qualifications
  • A Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology from an accredited institution;
  • A current Certificate of Clinical Competence issued by the American Speech/Language/Hearing Association (ASHA).
  • A valid State of Michigan Speech-Language Pathologist license issued by the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs, Bureau of Health Care Services.
  • CFY with supervision leading to CCC-SLP will be considered.
  • Teacher of the Speech/Language Impaired must provide evidence of a current Michigan Teaching Certificate with an endorsement in Speech/Language Pathology (SB), or a Michigan Temporary Teaching Authorization with an endorsement in Speech/Language Pathology (SB).
  • Expertise and experience working in an urban public school district is a plus. Previous work experience desired but not required.
Essential Functions
  1. Assess students to determine eligibility for special education services. Select and implement suitable evaluation methods (including classroom observation, case history information, standardized tests, and informal assessments) based on the student's capabilities.
  2. Accurately communicate evaluation results to parents and educational staff.
  3. Implement Individual Educational Plans (IEPs). Develop and adjust SMART therapy goals and objectives, ensuring alignment with educational standards, materials, and activities tailored to the needs, interests, and abilities of students. Monitor student progress and modify goals as necessary.
  4. Create and sustain a learning environment that is supportive and appropriate for the students' abilities.
  5. Advise parents, educators, and students regarding the nature, impact, and management of communication disorders.
  6. Collaborate with parents, school personnel, and other professionals to develop and implement behavior management and intervention strategies. Participate in Resource Coordinating Teams (RCTs) and contribute to Response to Intervention (RtI) initiatives.
  7. Establish and maintain positive working relationships with staff, students, and parents. Engage in school and district professional development programs. Plan and conduct workshops and training sessions.
  8. Demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of special education regulations and ensure compliance.
  9. Initiate, participate in, and follow through on MET/IEP processes as appropriate.
  10. Attend school staff meetings and discipline-specific meetings.
  11. Maintain accurate, complete, and timely records as mandated by law, district policy, and administrative regulations; submit records at designated times. Records include, but are not limited to, MET/IEP documentation, service tracking notes, student progress reports, and compliance monitoring reports.
  12. Perform additional duties as assigned by the building administrator.
