Transportation Trainee

Job Summary: We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Transportation Trainee to join our team at Phelps-Clifton Springs Central School District. As a Transportation Trainee, you will be responsible for learning and assisting with the operation of school buses, including attending training sessions, shadowing licensed drivers, and performing bus driving duties under close supervision.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Attend training sessions to learn motor vehicle rules and regulations pertaining to school bus operation
  • Shadow licensed bus drivers and/or trainers to gain hands-on experience
  • Perform bus driving duties under close supervision, including riding with drivers to learn routes
  • Learns and follows procedures for accident avoidance and response
  • Learns basic maintenance procedures and prepares and maintains bus routes

Requirements:

  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • Possession of a valid New York State Operator's license and maintenance of such license throughout employment
  • Meet Civil Service requirements
