Position Overview:

This role is responsible for ensuring optimal network capacity and addressing future network requirements. The position involves overseeing the planning and installation of hardware and communication systems while ensuring compatibility between software and hardware components.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Directs the planning, design, procurement, and performance of wide and local area network configurations along with the necessary hardware and software.
  • Oversees the planning, design, procurement, and performance of voice communication systems and their associated hardware and software.
  • Diagnoses and resolves issues related to wide and local area networks and voice communication, while proactively identifying potential future challenges.
  • Evaluates technology and security risks, providing necessary updates to management.
  • Assists in the planning, design, procurement, and performance of Windows client/server system hardware and software.
  • Develops and manages the budget for the unit, contributing to overall section budget planning and administration.
  • Supervises the maintenance and support of voice and data communication network hardware and software.
  • Reviews products, addresses vendor issues, and collaborates with technical staff.
  • Plans and executes wide area network configurations and the related hardware and software.
  • Manages telecommunications support across all locations.
  • Oversees the support and maintenance of the data network, including installation, troubleshooting, and design.
  • Provides maintenance support for voice communication network hardware.
  • Assigns, supervises, and evaluates staff work, ensuring compliance with organizational policies while addressing any complaints or grievances.
  • Monitors project milestones and deliverables to ensure timely completion.

Additional Duties:

  • Participates in the research, evaluation, and prototyping of new products and services.
  • Conducts training sessions for team members.
  • Offers after-hours and weekend support as necessary.
  • Performs other assigned responsibilities as required.

Ideal Candidate Qualifications:

  • Extensive knowledge of computer architecture, operating systems, and programming languages.
  • Expertise in local area networks, wide area networks, and distributed database systems.
  • Familiarity with communication equipment and related operating systems.
  • Understanding of project management principles and practices.
  • Proficient in technical writing, scripting, and documentation.
  • Strong interpersonal and active listening abilities.
  • Capable of conducting technical studies and coordinating network-related activities effectively.
  • Ability to plan, supervise, and communicate effectively with both technical and administrative personnel.

Minimum Qualifications:

A bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in information technology, computer science, or a related field, along with six years of experience in network communications design, installation, and maintenance, including LAN/WAN systems.

Note:

Graduate studies in the specified fields may substitute for experience on a year-for-year basis, up to two years. Full-time paid experience in network design, installation, and maintenance can also substitute for education on a year-for-year basis. A Cisco CCNA certification may replace one year of required education or experience.

Promotional Criteria:

  • One year of service with the organization as a Network Engineer or A/V Administrator.
  • Civil service status in the aforementioned classifications.
