Job Summary
We invite you to join our team in Hampton, NJ, as a Senior Software Engineer specializing in Motor Control Systems. In this pivotal role, you will spearhead Firmware and Software development, Power Electronics solutions, and Motor Control and Sensor Design across a wide array of products. Your contributions will support the production of our Precision Fastening Tools and Controllers, significantly impacting our assembly operations and supplier relationships. Responsibilities
- Develop comprehensive motor control execution strategies that align with budgetary and scheduling constraints.
- Create front-end engineering documentation, including block diagrams and control theories.
- Specify hardware solutions that adhere to product design requirements.
- Demonstrate expertise in motor control systems, encompassing sensor feedback, slip-based control, closed-loop position, speed and torque control, and field-oriented control (FOC).
- Utilize simulation and design software tools for electromagnetic and thermal analysis, such as ANSYS Motor-CAD, Maxwell, COMSOL, Simcenter MotorSolve, SPEED, Altair FluxMotor, and MATLAB/Simulink, to:
- Calculate magnetic circuits and flux paths to achieve desired performance.
- Determine optimal pole, slot, and winding configurations based on application needs.
- Optimize air gap, magnetic materials, and core geometry to enhance magnetic flux density and minimize losses.
- Evaluate temperature distribution within motors to prevent overheating and ensure thermal stability.
- Identify cooling methods suitable for specific applications.
- Select materials for rotors, stators, and bearings to withstand mechanical and environmental stresses.
- Design motor windings to achieve desired electromagnetic properties and minimize losses.
- Choose insulation materials and systems to ensure electrical performance, reliability, and safety.
- Optimize motor performance characteristics, including torque-speed curves, power factor, and power density.
- Possess knowledge of analog and digital sensors and their integration.
- Understand various position and current sensing methods and components, including hall cells, encoders, and resolvers.
- Master's or PhD degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, mechatronic engineering, or a related field with a focus on control systems.
- A minimum of 10 years of experience in industrial motor control development.
- Familiarity with various digital communication protocols such as SPI, I2C, and RS485.
- Knowledge of process hazard analysis, SIL, and safety-rated devices.
- Awareness of industry standards and regulations, including IEC, NEMA, UL, and specific application standards for safety, performance, and environmental considerations.
- Understanding of EMC requirements relevant to power converter design.
- Experience in developing test and diagnostics software to support bench testing.
- Participate in informal and formal design reviews and evaluate product designs through design verification test plans and reports.
- Assist manufacturing with electronic troubleshooting of products.
- Experience in testing and troubleshooting is essential.
- Position based onsite in Hampton, NJ.
- Willingness to travel up to 25% as needed.
- Must be a US Citizen or lawful Permanent Resident.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within an integrated team.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
- Capable of managing multiple projects simultaneously and coordinating closely with project managers for timely updates and prioritization.
