Parrish Medical Center is seeking a skilled Phlebotomist to join our team. As a Phlebotomist, you will be responsible for collecting blood specimens from patients in a variety of settings, including inpatient and outpatient departments. You will work closely with our laboratory team to ensure accurate and timely specimen collection and processing.
Key Responsibilities- Specimen Collection: Collect blood specimens from patients using venipuncture and micro collection techniques, ensuring maximum quality samples.
- Patient Identification: Verify patient identification and confirm orders with each outpatient, ensuring accurate and timely specimen collection.
- Computer System Utilization: Utilize our laboratory computer system to edit laboratory requests/requisitions and add or delete tests as necessary.
- Education and Communication: Educate patients on the specimen collection process and provide clear instructions for aftercare.
- Specimen Processing: Complete blood specimen processing, ensuring accurate patient identification and safe transportation to the main lab.
- Quality Control: Perform daily point-of-care quality checks, monitoring glucometer performance and temperature charts.
- Workflow Management: Organize workflow to expedite testing, prioritizing activities and minimizing identified problems in the specimen collection process.
- Adherence to Policies: Adhere to established policies and procedures, including confidentiality and commitment to the Corporate Compliance Program.
- Preceptorship and Training: Serve as a preceptor to students and new employees, working cooperatively with other departments to instruct and be instructed on new procedures.
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Experience: 1 to 2 years of previous experience as a phlebotomist preferred; may consider candidates that have completed a phlebotomy training program.
- Certifications: BLS through The American Heart Association required; phlebotomy certification strongly preferred.
