Casting Cleaning Specialist

Primary Function: Removal of ceramic shell material from cast parts is a critical task that requires attention to detail and a strong understanding of the manufacturing process.
Tools and Equipment: The successful candidate will be responsible for operating high pressure water wash units, hand sanding cabinets, and manual wash cabinets to remove ceramic shell material from castings. Additionally, they will be required to use personal protective equipment and electronic media as needed.
Material: The candidate will work with a variety of materials, including aluminum, copper, and brass based alloys, ceramic shell material, sand, and plexiglas viewing windows.
Direction of Others: The Casting Cleaning Operator will work independently, with minimal supervision, to complete tasks and meet production deadlines.
Working Procedure: The following are the usual major job duties:
1. Consistently follow all applicable work instructions.
2. Receive daily work assignments from the supervisor.
3. Efficiently and effectively use high pressure water wash equipment, hand sanding cabinets, and manual wash cabinets to remove ceramic shell material from castings.
4. Place individual castings on racks, maintaining batch integrity, and keep the appropriate test bars together with the castings.
5. Exercise extreme care in removing the ceramic from the castings, avoiding any water blast damage.
6. Visually inspect all castings, notifying the supervisor of any cleaning problems.
7. Transfer castings to the next operation on the process sheet.
8. Replace plexiglas viewing windows and perform other minor maintenance as required.
9. Establish acceptable casting cleaning techniques (including fixturing) for sample and preproduction runs.
10. Maintain all labor vouchers, records, and files, in addition to a variety of logs where accuracy is paramount, and enter all required information into the Company software in a timely manner.
11. Attend and successfully complete hazardous material / waste handling classes.
12. Maintain work area in a clean and orderly condition.
13. Attend and successfully complete lock out / tag out training.
14. Attend and successfully complete training in the proper techniques of lifting.
15. Perform other duties as assigned.
Work Environment: The Casting Cleaning Operator must be able to tolerate the normal temperature swings typically experienced in a foundry environment, in addition to the damp, wet conditions due to working around water blasting equipment.
Special Skills Required: The successful candidate must have sufficient strength and manual dexterity to perform the physical demands of the job. Additionally, they must have average working knowledge of personal computers and related software.
