We are seeking a highly skilled Marine Oiler to join our team at the New York Police Department. As a Marine Oiler, you will be responsible for assisting the marine engineer in the operation, maintenance, and repair of motor ferry equipment.
Key Responsibilities- Assist the marine engineer in the operation, maintenance, and repair of motor ferry equipment
- Maintain appropriate levels of oil and lubricants in main engines, ship service diesel generators, and related equipment
- Perform routine maintenance tasks, including cleaning and lubricating equipment, and inspecting for damage or wear
- Assist in the operation of heating boilers and maintain proper temperature and pressure in fuel oil systems
- Inspect below-deck emergency and rescue equipment and perform required duties at fire drills
- Report any unusual situations or findings to the supervisor for immediate corrective action
- Possession of a valid U.S. Coast Guard Merchant Mariner's Credential (MMC) with endorsement as a Designated Duty Engineer (DDE) of motor vessels of any horsepower or Qualified Member of the Engine Department (QMED) with the following ratings: any rating, Junior Engineer, Oiler, or Fireman/Watertender
- Possession of a valid U.S. Coast Guard Merchant Mariner's Credential (MMC) with endorsement for Third Assistant Engineer or higher of motor vessels of any horsepower
This position requires working in a fast-paced environment with frequent exposure to noise, vibrations, and hazardous materials. The successful candidate must be able to work independently and as part of a team, and must be able to lift and move heavy equipment as needed.
