Role Purpose:
- Accountable for ensuring adherence to coding standards through comprehensive auditing, training, and oversight of clinic coding personnel.
- Conducts thorough evaluations of provider documentation and code assignment.
- Serves as a mentor and guide for coding personnel.
- Facilitates or provides educational opportunities.
- Participates as a member of the Clinic Support Services Leadership Team and the Compliance and Integrity Team.
- Performs quality audits and assessments of coding executed by clinic coders. Generates reports and corrective action strategies in collaboration with Coding Leads and Management. Communicates findings and improvement plans in a constructive and professional manner.
- Analyzes provider coding trends utilizing tools such as Histograms to pinpoint areas needing enhancement. Develops strategies that may involve direct collaboration with providers or on-site coders to rectify identified issues.
- Evaluates the effectiveness of educational initiatives by monitoring changes in documentation or coding practices. Engages with management and clinic leaders when obstacles arise.
- Through the auditing process, evaluates coder competencies and identifies training needs. Provides or coordinates necessary educational resources.
- Travels to various clinics to deliver training to coding staff, clinic personnel, and providers.
- Assists Coding Leads in resolving issues related to claims with coding errors and offers feedback for rectification and follow-up.
Fulltime - Monday to Friday / No Weekends / No Holidays
Minimum Qualifications:
Education:
- Completion of college coursework in coding, anatomy and physiology, and medical terminology is preferred.
- Current coding certification is required (or a commitment to obtain within two years): Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), Certified Coding Specialist - Physician Based (CCS-P), Certified Professional Coder (CPC). Other credentials may be considered.
- A minimum of three years of coding experience is required.
- Education Assistance is available.
