The Perioperative Nurse is responsible for assessing patients preoperatively, planning care during surgical interventions, implementing nursing actions, and evaluating outcomes. This role requires expertise in operating room procedures and the ability to function independently in the performance of other surgical procedures.
Key Responsibilities- Establish and implement standards of practice to ensure safe, effective, and efficient nursing skills.
- Interpret and comply with JCAHO, OSHA, and other federal and state standards.
- Assess patients preoperatively, plan care during surgical interventions, implement nursing actions, and evaluate outcomes.
- Document patient records and maintain confidentiality of patient information.
- Communicate and collaborate with other members of the healthcare team.
- Cover central supply responsibilities in times of illness or vacation and as needed.
- Maintain a procedural log and ensure that appropriate supplies are available and replaced as used or needed.
- Graduate of an accredited nursing school required; Bachelor's Degree in Nursing preferred.
- At least two years of prior perioperative experience required or preferred.
- Current valid Massachusetts Registered Nurse (RN) license required.
- National certification in areas of expertise (CNOR, CEN, CCRN, etc.) preferred.
- BLS/CPR certification required within one week of hire.
- ACLS and PALS certifications required prior to completion of orientation or within 6 months of hire, whichever occurs first.
