Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Construction Inspector to join our team at EMC Engineering Services. As a key member of our construction team, you will be responsible for performing advanced technical work in support of higher-level technicians and engineers in areas such as construction inspection and surveying, scheduling and status, roadway design, traffic signal equipment, traffic signalization and geometrics, materials sampling, inspection and testing.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct Independent Complex Inspections: Perform independent complex inspections on roadways and structure construction processes and materials to ensure compliance with construction contracts.
  • Inspect Roadway and Structure Construction: Inspect asphalt or concrete for acceptable materials and mix, pavement for proper spreading, rolling, depth, alignment, and compaction, roadways and structures for conformance to plans and specifications, structural materials and members, placement of culverts, structural operations such as foundation excavation, placement of piling, reinforcing and structural steel, concrete, and backfill, and traffic control and erosion control devices.
  • Pavement Evaluations and Reporting: Perform pavement evaluations of roadways using the Georgia Department of Transportation's (GDOT) Pavement Condition Evaluation System (PACES) and produce pavement condition reports.
  • Recommendations and Documentation: Make recommendations for repair and maintenance needs of the roadway and document findings, measurements, and observations.
  • Cost Estimates and Calculations: Familiar with roadway construction cost estimates in accordance with GDOT's standard items and perform complex calculations and computations.
  • Training and Guidance: Assist with training junior Construction Inspectors on field inspections procedures and reporting requirements and provide guidance on performing project inspections, requirements, and resolution of quality of work issues in the field.
  • Project Monitoring and Compliance: Understand project budgets and monitor inspection time vs revenue available and maintain compliance with all company policies and procedures.
Requirements
  • Education and Experience: High school diploma or GED plus 5 years of progressive transportation technical experience or degree in civil engineering technology from an accredited two-year technical college plus 5 years of progressive transportation technical experience or equivalent combination of training and directly related experience.
  • Communication and Math Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills and basic math skills.
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with OSHA guidelines and directives, in conjunction with the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and local standards.
