About the Position:

Position Overview

Under the supervision of a Radiologist and departmental leadership, the Medical Imaging Specialist conducts radiographic examinations at a technical level that does not necessitate continuous oversight of technical details. This role encompasses a variety of technical tasks that require independent judgment, creativity, and initiative to utilize ionizing radiation for diagnostic imaging. The individual will take responsibility for specific areas of the imaging process, catering to a diverse patient demographic from infants to seniors.



Essential Qualifications
  • Licensure or Certifications:
  • Educational Background: High School Diploma or GED. Graduate of an accredited ARRT Program.
  • Experience Required: QC Technologist: Minimum of two (2) years in a staff technologist role.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operates imaging equipment in accordance with specifications to produce high-quality radiographs. Adheres to safety and infection control protocols. Maintains a clean and organized workspace. Manages processors, diagnoses processing issues, and takes necessary actions. Follows established radiation safety protocols, including coning, shielding, and film badge monitoring, in compliance with state and federal regulations. Consistently produces quality images within established guidelines. Maintains patient records in accordance with departmental procedures. Understands the appropriate use of contrast media (including consent forms, types, quantities, and potential complications). Accurately assesses patients based on the ordered examination with proper documentation (i.e., verifying orders, reviewing previous images, checking lab values when necessary, preparing patients, screening for possible pregnancy, gathering relevant history, and coordinating with the Imaging nurse as needed). Provides patient education relevant to the examination being conducted and documents this in the patient record. Ensures compliance with RIS standards as defined by the department (i.e., order, arrival, start, completion, cancellation, recording complications, IV infiltrate documentation, drug history, repeats, complaints, and transfers), and CPAC procedures when applicable. Meets productivity benchmarks as established by the department.
  • Performs non-technical tasks as assigned (e.g., stocking supplies, transporting patients, cleaning cassettes). Participates in departmental meetings. Engages in the training of new personnel. Undertakes special projects and additional duties as required.


Unit-Specific Responsibilities
  • Evaluate the quality of films for contrast, positioning, motion, markers, and identification prior to interpretation.
  • Organize fluoroscopy films for dictation.
  • Monitor all urgent requests for timely interpretation.
  • Communicate with scheduling for any additions to the daily agenda.
  • Assume supervisory responsibilities in the absence of the supervisor.
  • Contact service personnel in case of equipment malfunctions.
