Media Specialist, Library Services Coordinator

As a Media Specialist at Hampton County School District, you will play a vital role in providing an enriched library environment that supports the school's curriculum program and fosters intellectual growth. Your expertise will aid patrons in acquiring the skills needed to take full advantage of library resources, while reporting to the Principal.
Key Responsibilities- Evaluate, select, and requisition new library materials to meet the curricula and personal needs of patrons.
- Maintain a current collection of high-quality materials to meet the curricula and personal needs of patrons.
- Contribute to the effective use of various media, including books, periodicals, television, computers, and more, to facilitate meeting the goals and objectives of the curriculum.
- Provide for effective storage and retrieval of materials and equipment.
- Inform teachers and staff members about the total library program and new materials acquired.
- Provide materials and instruction in the use of library media center resources in classroom instruction and assignments.
- Plan library promotions, displays, and other initiatives to promote library use and literature appreciation.
- Help students develop habits of independent reference work and skills in using reference materials for planned assignments.
- Promote appropriate conduct among patrons using library facilities.
- Arrange for district inter-library loan of materials of interest or use to patrons.
- Promote flexible scheduling of large groups, small groups, and individuals to ensure effective use of library media services and materials.
- Conduct orientation lessons for teachers and students.
- Assist with developing and maintaining an accurate record of budget and expenditures and submitting requests for instructional materials.
- Conduct annual inventory of library materials.
- Participate in school-level curriculum planning.
- Evaluate and maintain a collection of audio-visual materials.
- Supervise circulation procedures for library resources, including print and non-print collections and hardware.
- Supervise maintenance of card catalog, vertical file, and other necessary files.
- Maintain a facility that is inviting, attractive, and conducive to learning.
- Assume responsibility for keeping current professionally by attending pertinent professional meetings and conferences that contribute to professional growth.
- Operate general office equipment, such as copiers, computers, and calculators.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Superintendent and Principal.
- Certification as set by state certification authorities.
- Ability to effectively deal with students and staff.
- Knowledge of state and federal regulations and compliance requirements applicable to the program.
- Knowledge of records, forms, and reports that must be prepared and maintained.
- Knowledge of fiscal management practices.
- Strong knowledge of word processing, email, spreadsheets, electronic files management, the internet, and reporting and presentation software.
- Ability to keep abreast of changes in policy, standards, procedures, and regulations pertinent to job functions.
- Knowledge of general computer applications and their utilization as related to specific tasks and responsibilities.
- Thorough knowledge of Business English, spelling, grammar, punctuation, and mathematical computation.
