Position OverviewThe Clinical Laboratory Technologist plays a crucial role in performing laboratory analyses and evaluations that assist healthcare providers in diagnosing conditions and ensuring high-quality patient care. This role is essential in supporting the mission and values of Mary Washington Healthcare, demonstrating a commitment to excellence in service delivery.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct routine and specialized laboratory tests following established protocols, including those that require intricate procedures and critical evaluations.
- Implement quality control measures on laboratory instruments and reagents to uphold the highest standards of laboratory services in compliance with regulatory guidelines.
- Analyze and interpret abnormal test results, troubleshooting instrument issues to maintain the integrity of reported findings.
- Accurately input test results into the laboratory information system to ensure timely reporting.
- Participate in proficiency testing for both internal and external samples to adhere to regulatory standards.
- Collaborate professionally with physicians and other healthcare professionals regarding test outcomes and any concerns.
- Assist in evaluating new laboratory technologies and procedures to enhance operational efficiency.
- Support the training and orientation of new staff members while maintaining personal competency through ongoing education and proficiency assessments.
- Monitor laboratory supplies and equipment to ensure adequate inventory levels for uninterrupted service.
- Collect and properly label blood specimens in accordance with departmental protocols.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
- A Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Technology or a related field is required, along with ASCP or AMT certification for Medical Technologist or Medical Laboratory Scientist.
- NCA certification is required or must be obtained.
- A minimum of one to two years of relevant experience is preferred.
