Job Title: Dental Assistant
The Dental Assistant supports dental care delivery by preparing treatment rooms, patients, instruments, and materials to provide quality care. In addition, Dental Assistants perform a variety of patient care, office, and laboratory duties, and provide chair-side assistance to dentists during exams.
Responsibilities:
- Prepares and maintains dental instruments, supplies, and equipment.
- Assembles instrumentation by sterilizing and delivering instruments to treatment areas, positioning instruments for dentists' access, suctioning, and passing instruments.
- Collects and records patient health information thoroughly in the electronic health record regarding all treatment plans and procedures completed.
- Manages patients and educates them on all procedures during dental procedures/treatments.
- Seats patients in exam rooms as soon as possible after patients are checked in, performs medical history updates, blood pressure readings, and x-rays as determined by the doctor.
- Helps confirm the clinic schedule in conjunction with front desk staff.
- Maintains dental supplies inventory by checking stock to determine inventory levels, anticipating needed supplies, checking and stocking all operatory areas for supplies, and ensuring they are fully stocked.
- Prints x-rays as needed, as well as periodontal and full-mouth charting from electronic health records for Endo, Crowns, Removable Prosthetics, and scaling/root planning for insurance preauthorization and billing for treatment completed.
- Completes lab work on time (models, trays, occlusal rims).
- Coordinates outgoing and incoming lab cases, ensuring that lab slips and return dates are correct and calling labs for pickups.
- Flushes water lines daily and performs DUWL disinfection procedures weekly.
- Maintains HIPAA and protects patients and employees by adhering to infection-control policies and protocols.
- Keeps workstations neat and organized.
Rotation on Following Duties:
- Autoclave maintenance.
- Static sterilizer maintenance.
- Distilled water maintenance.
- Lab upkeep.
- Main trap in compressor room (monthly).
- Replace plaster trap (when full).
- Perform and document spore tests for autoclaves.
- Check oxygen tanks weekly.
Requirements:
- High school diploma.
- Graduated from an accredited Dental Assistant program.
- X-ray certification.
- At least three years of experience as a Dental Assistant (preferred).
- Must have current CPR certification and Hep B vaccination.
- Be fully trained and competent in digital x-ray and electronic health record software programs.
- Must comply with all OSHA and CDC requirements.
- A team player with excellent attitude and extremely patient-friendly.

- Light: exerting up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. The use of arm and/or leg control requires force greater than sedentary, but the worker still sits for the majority of the time.

Additional Requirements:
- Ability to get to and from 11th St. Health Center. Has access to reliable transportation and/or the ability to walk throughout the community during the shift; can stand for long periods and carry equipment.
