SUPERVISORY STRUCTURE: This role reports directly to the Managing Attorney of the Civil Department.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: The primary responsibilities of the Civil Litigation Attorney include managing a diverse caseload and providing oversight to a team of paralegals. Additional duties encompass:

  • Tracking active cases to ensure compliance with deadlines and necessary actions.
  • Evaluating both open and closed cases for accurate recordkeeping and file organization.
  • Editing and reviewing drafted legal documents, including original petitions, answers, and counterpetitions.
  • Preparing and drafting pre-trial discovery materials.
  • Representing clients in court as the lead attorney during bench and jury trials.
  • Participating in case-related events such as mediations and depositions.
  • Filing post-judgment motions, bills of review, and appeals.
  • Collaborating with fellow attorneys within the Civil Department to provide support as needed.
  • Engaging in departmental meetings to discuss case strategies and updates.
  • Building and maintaining positive relationships with clients, opposing counsel, court personnel, and judicial officers.
  • Conducting performance evaluations for team members and addressing any disciplinary matters in conjunction with the Managing Attorney and Chief Legal Officer.
  • Undertaking additional responsibilities as assigned by the Managing Attorney or Chief Legal Officer.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be licensed to practice law in Texas.
  • Relevant legal experience with a demonstrated commitment to civil law.
  • Proven trial and advocacy skills with a background in litigation.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Strategic thinking and planning capabilities.
  • Flexibility in work schedule is essential.
  • Strong work ethic and accountability are required.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally.
  • Consistent attendance is expected.

COMPENSATION: Salary will be determined based on the applicant's relevant experience.
