Job Summary

SpaceX is seeking a highly skilled Sr. Propulsion Engineer to join our team in designing and developing the Merlin Thrust Chamber Assembly (TCA) for our Falcon 9 and Falcon Heavy reusable launch vehicles.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support the build, test, and flight of Merlin Thrust Chamber Assemblies at our Hawthorne, CA headquarters
  • Collaborate with manufacturing engineers to ensure efficient TCA and sub-assembly manufacturing
  • Generate accurate CAD models and drawings for the TCA, ensuring efficient manufacturing processes
  • Perform and review detailed structural, thermal, and fluid analyses on TCA components and systems
  • Lead design and process improvements to maximize manufacturability and reliability of the M1D and MVacD TCA
  • Resolve issues encountered with the TCA during testing or flight operations
  • Support engine test teams for development, qualification, and production engine tests
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline
  • 5+ years of professional experience in hardware or propulsion system development
Preferred Skills and Experience
  • Master's degree in an engineering discipline
  • Hands-on experience with rocket engines of any size
  • 3+ years of experience in TCA or rocket engine development
  • Experience with thrust chamber manufacturing and design for manufacturability
  • Experience with thrust chamber testing and engine firing
  • Full engineering lifecycle experience
  • Strong understanding of thermodynamics, compressible and incompressible flow, heat transfer, structures, and metallic material science
Additional Requirements
  • Willingness to travel to McGregor, TX and Cape Canaveral, FL
  • Ability to pass Air Force background checks
