Job Overview

Position Summary:

Under the guidance of the Shop Service Manager, the Road Service Technician plays a crucial role in conducting routine maintenance, repairs, replacements, and limited diagnostics on a variety of forklift models and other material handling machinery.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair various makes of lift trucks and their components.
  • Execute all assigned Planned Maintenance (PM) tasks on both customer and internal lift trucks.
  • Conduct timely PMs and engine tune-ups on most equipment types with minimal supervision.
  • Support the training and development of apprentice mechanics through hands-on instruction.
  • Adhere to all safety protocols while performing tasks and following company policies.
  • Collaborate with the parts department to accurately identify and order necessary replacement components.
  • Test lift equipment post-repair to confirm the effectiveness of completed work.
  • Ensure electric forklift batteries are fully charged and operational.
  • Inspect lift equipment to verify proper and safe functionality.
  • Utilize the TW Mobile application to efficiently manage service calls, ensuring accurate entry of service order details, including work descriptions, time tracking, technician notes, recommendations, service images, checklists, and required parts.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Strong mechanical repair capabilities.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Proficient in visually diagnosing mechanical issues.
  • Skilled in using computer diagnostic tools and software.
  • Ability to interpret service and repair manuals.
  • Timely execution of repairs.
  • Competent in reading work orders.
  • Ability to understand electrical and hydraulic system schematics.
  • Capable of repairing or replacing major system components, including circuit boards, hydraulic systems, power steering, transmissions, and engines with limited oversight.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Able to work efficiently under pressure and manage multiple tasks independently.
  • Advanced customer service skills.
  • Proficient in using specialized tools and maintaining standard tools of the trade.

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 3 to 5 years of relevant mechanical experience in lift truck repair, automotive, large equipment, or a related field, or completion of a related trade school program.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record and the ability to operate lift trucks safely.

Physical Requirements:

  • Regularly required to communicate effectively and hear instructions.
  • Frequently required to stand, walk, and use hands for various tasks.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds regularly and occasionally up to 100 pounds.
  • Ability to inspect equipment to identify necessary repairs.
  • Good vision is required for inspecting repair work.
  • Must be capable of bending, stretching, pushing, pulling, and moving to access machinery.
  • Physical capability to access all parts of the forklift requiring maintenance or repairs.
