Key Responsibilities:
  • Safely assists in the transfer and transportation of residents.
  • Prepares residents for transport as needed.
  • Ensures safety and confidentiality are maintained at all times.
  • Provides exceptional customer service to residents.
  • Acts as an advocate for residents, addressing and escalating concerns as necessary.
  • Prepares residents for meals, serving and clearing food trays while assisting with dining.
  • Responds promptly to call bells.
  • Delivers personal care services, which may include oral hygiene, manicures, shaving, and hair care.
  • Reports observations regarding residents' behaviors and any changes to the nursing staff.
  • Communicates effectively, establishing positive relationships with unit personnel, residents, families, visitors, and physicians.
  • Identifies safety hazards and takes appropriate measures to maintain a clean and safe environment.
  • Assists in preparing for new admissions by readying rooms, beds, and equipment in advance.
  • Facilitates patient transfers to different rooms or units.
  • Supports patients during the discharge process.
  • Provides postmortem care in accordance with established policies.
  • Basic Nursing Care: In collaboration with the preceptor and/or nurse, delivers fundamental nursing care to patients.
  • Administers AM/PM care, which may include bed baths, oral hygiene, grooming, dressing residents, changing bed linens, and tidying the room.
  • Ensures residents are turned and repositioned every two hours as indicated.
  • Performs routine treatment procedures, including the application of heat or cold therapy.
  • Accurately measures and records vital signs, including temperature, pulse, respiration, weight, height, and blood pressure, without needing reminders.
  • Prepares patients for meals and assists them during dining.
  • Distributes drinking water and snacks to patients in a timely manner.
  • Responds to call lights promptly, anticipating patient needs and making rounds of assigned patients.
  • Assists with the care of residents' personal belongings, including glasses, dentures, contact lenses, hearing aids, and prosthetic devices, while collecting and transporting specimens as per procedure.
  • Maintains a safe environment for residents, ensuring beds are in low positions, siderails are up as per policy, and call lights are within reach.
  • Facilitates range of motion exercises, ambulation, wheelchair mobility, and bowel and bladder training.
  • Serves and clears food trays in a timely manner.
  • Obtains vital signs for new admissions upon arrival.
Communication:
  • Conveys essential information accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Readily assists colleagues and fosters a cooperative and supportive working relationship.
  • Follows directions from managers, RNs, LPNs, and preceptors positively.
  • Communicates issues and concerns appropriately across departments.
  • Responds promptly and courteously to patient requests.
  • Responds to requests from peers and supervisors in a timely and courteous manner.
  • Encourages teamwork.
  • Provides assistance with patient admissions, discharges, or transfers.
Supervision Level:
  • Required: Works under constant supervision.
  • Contacts: Regular interactions, both within and outside the organization, to exchange information.
  • Requires courtesy, tact, and a basic understanding of organizational procedures.
Qualifications/Requirements:

Entry-level knowledge; basic employment skills. High School Diploma or equivalent is preferred.

Education/Knowledge:
  • Experience: Less than one year.
  • Technical/Clinical Skills (Usage):
Certifications, Licenses, Registrations:
  • American Heart Association CPR Certification.
  • Must pass the GNA exam within the first 90 days.
  • Must be a graduate of an accredited CNA program.
  • CNA license or 90-day Temporary CNA license must be registered with the Maryland Board of Nursing.
