Early Head Start Teacher

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Early Head Start Teacher to join our team at The Y of Central Maryland. As a key member of our Early Childhood Education department, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality care and education to infants and toddlers.
Key Responsibilities:- Ensure the health, welfare, and safety of children in your care, maintaining appropriate adult/child ratios and adhering to local licensing and Head Start Performance Standards.
- Supervise children at all times, adjusting your approach to meet the diverse needs of infants and toddlers.
- Promote feelings of security and trust by being warm, supportive, and comforting, establishing strong relationships with children and their families.
- Develop and implement individualized daily lesson plans that align with the Infant/Toddler Curriculum Developmental Continuum and Head Start School Readiness Outcomes.
- Conduct regular observations, assessments, and activities to measure growth and development, informing and involving all classroom staff, parents, and volunteers in daily lesson plans and activities.
- Manage classroom structure, including schedules, routines, and transitions, ensuring a smooth and engaging learning environment.
- Demonstrate cultural sensitivity, respect, acceptance, and patience in your interactions with children, families, and colleagues.
- Conduct developmental screenings of infants and toddlers' motor, language, social, cognitive, perceptual, and emotional skills, sharing results with caregivers and parents.
- Maintain accurate records of attendance, education folders, and portfolio-assessment binders, adhering to Head Start, COMAR regulations, and Curriculum guidelines.
- Participate in regular meetings with parents, recruiting their input into planning for classroom activities and ensuring they receive developmentally appropriate home learning activities on a weekly basis.
- Recruit, train, and utilize parent volunteers in the classroom, fostering a sense of community and collaboration.
- Oversee classroom staff, providing guidance and support as needed, and ensuring all written communication from the Education Service Area is shared with the classroom team in a timely manner.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and appealing classroom and center environment, adhering to Y of Central Maryland's Child Care Philosophy.
- Attend and actively participate in Early Head Start, Head Start, and Curriculum training to continue professional growth and development.
- Model professional behavior and adherence to Y of Central Maryland's policies and procedures, promoting a positive and inclusive work environment.
- Infant/Toddler CDA (or) 6 semester (90 clock hours) or equivalent of approved Early Childhood coursework and 3 semesters (45 clock hours) or equivalent approved infant/toddler coursework required.
- One year supervised early childhood experience required - two years preferred.
- Possess Pediatric First Aid and CPR certificate or obtain within 90 days of employment.
