POSITION OVERVIEW
  • The Practical Nursing Specialist (PNS) plays a vital role in delivering patient care through the nursing process, which includes assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation.
  • Under the mentorship of Registered Nurses, the PNS will lead and facilitate patient education activities based on their qualifications and demonstrated skills.
  • With the oversight of a Registered Nurse, the PNS assists in evaluating the physical, psychological, and social aspects of patients both in the health care unit and, when necessary, in the housing units.
  • The PNS collaborates in the development and execution of personalized treatment plans, utilizing available resources and consulting with registered nurses, physicians, and correctional staff.
  • Administers medications and interventions as per the medical plan, following provider directives.
  • Records nursing interactions, patient responses, treatment effectiveness, and any complications, communicating pertinent information to supervisory staff and physicians, in line with provider instructions.

Minimum qualifications include:

LICENSING: Current, unrestricted New Mexico Licensed Practical Nursing (LPN) License

CERTIFICATION: Current CPR Certification

EDUCATION: Graduate from an accredited nursing program

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE: At least one (1) year of clinical experience; experience in correctional settings is preferred.
