Job Title: Optometric Technician

EssilorLuxottica is seeking a highly skilled Optometric Technician to join our team. As an Optometric Technician, you will play a vital role in ensuring that patients receive the highest quality optometric care.

Job Summary:

The Optometric Technician will assist optometrists with patient care and eye exams, including managing patient records and supporting patient flow throughout the exam. This role requires strong communication and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist optometrists with patient care and eye exams, including managing patient records and supporting patient flow throughout the exam.
  • Perform various tests to aid the optometrist with vision examinations, including visual acuity measurements, depth and color perception tests, and retinal imaging.
  • Perform tests to aid the optometrist in accurate diagnosis and treatment for the patient in an appropriate time frame.
  • Review prescriptions and/or patient information carefully, identify special needs, and consult with optometrists, opticians, or practice managers when necessary.
  • Identify situations involving dissatisfied patients and act quickly to resolve the issue.
  • Perform work accurately and thoroughly despite time pressure and patient volume.
  • Handle and file all patient records in an organized and efficient manner in accordance with practice standards and HIPAA.
  • Support contact lens exams and orders, including contact lens care, trial inventory, and patient orders.
  • Effectively utilize appointment book/scheduling procedures and computer operation/procedures.
  • Operate the point-of-sale system, inputting patient information with accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Maintain a safe working environment for all team members and patients.
  • Support compliance of visual merchandising in the exam lanes, assessment room, and contact lens area.
  • Adapt to various examination scenarios and be personable with patients and staff.
  • Perform all pre-examination testing with accuracy and attention to detail, and take the initiative to explain all measurements and answer any questions the patient may have.
  • Responsible for maintenance and disinfection of equipment, and provide clinical support to the optometrist as needed.
  • Work weekends and evenings in support of business needs (varies by location).
  • Adhere to attendance and daily time-keeping requirements.
  • Adhere to all company policies and procedures.
  • Consistently maintain proper dress code.
  • Perform other functions as assigned by practice manager or business needs.
Requirements:
  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • 2+ years' experience in optometry, ophthalmology, or healthcare setting.
  • Knowledge of optical and medical terminology.
  • Understanding and utilization of optical equipment and diagnostic testing (pre-exam testing, pretesting, visual acuity, etc.).
  • Coaching skills.
  • Strong communicator and listening skills.
  • Problem-solving ability.
  • Organization skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to assess priorities, address multiple tasks, and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work autonomously.
  • Knowledge of office environment.
  • Strong basic math skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in healthcare.
  • Previous experience in customer service, retail, and/or optical.
  • Optometric technician certification.

Pay Range: $19.14-$29.55

Employee pay is determined by multiple factors, including geography, experience, qualifications, skills, and local minimum wage requirements. In addition, you may also be offered a competitive bonus and/or commission plan, which complements a first-class total rewards package. Benefits may include health care, retirement savings, paid time off/vacation, and various employee discounts.
