Job Overview

This role is essential within the Street Department, focusing on the operation of machinery utilized in street construction and maintenance. The position also involves assisting with upkeep tasks related to the assigned area and performing additional duties as necessary.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operates a variety of heavy machinery, including but not limited to backhoes, dump trucks, water trucks, loaders, rollers, street sweepers, and forklifts.
  • Conducts preventive maintenance on assigned machinery and aids in ensuring that all equipment remains in safe operational condition.
  • Repairs and reconstructs city streets; removes concrete and lays asphalt; backfills curbs.
  • Installs traffic control devices and markings for roads and parking lots.
  • Performs street sweeping; clears debris from roadways; cleans gutters; applies herbicides as needed.
  • Identifies and documents street potholes and/or trees that may obstruct roadways.
  • Maintains, repairs, and installs pumps, valve boxes, and manholes.
  • Replaces meter boxes and lids as required.
  • Assists in the cleaning and maintenance of departmental facilities as assigned.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • At least one year of experience in equipment operation; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must possess or be able to obtain a valid Class A Texas Driver's License within one year of employment.

Incentive pay is available for candidates holding a Class A Commercial Driver's License.
