Detention Paralegal

Americans for Immigrant Justice (AI Justice) is a leading not-for-profit legal services organization dedicated to protecting and promoting the basic human rights of immigrants. We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Detention Paralegal to join our team.

The Detention Paralegal will provide critical support to our Detention Program, working closely with attorneys, advocates, and clients to ensure the fair and humane treatment of individuals in ICE custody. This role requires excellent communication skills, a strong understanding of immigration law, and a commitment to social justice.

• Assist attorneys with daily case management tasks, including drafting USCIS and EOIR applications, questionnaires, and supporting documents.
• Conduct intakes, individual client interviews, and follow-up meetings with clients.
• Answer phone calls on the Detention Hotline and route calls appropriately for assistance, intake, emergency response, and referrals to other agencies.
• Assist with gathering documentation, supporting documents, evidence, criminal history documents, and other evidence for USCIS and Immigration Court submissions.
• Enter and maintain client information into a case management and database system, working with Legal Server and the Microsoft platform.
• Scan, mail, file, electronic file, and all related document management for clients, prospective clients, and former clients.

• BA degree required.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Comfortable working in a collaborative, fast-paced environment that values giving and receiving feedback.
• Comfortable working independently.
• Familiarity with Microsoft Office 365 required. Knowledge of client database systems preferred.
