About the Role
We are seeking a highly skilled Medical Care Specialist - Ophthalmology Support to join our team at SSM Health. As a key member of our healthcare team, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional patient care and support.
About the Job
The Medical Care Specialist - Ophthalmology Support will be responsible for assisting eye care providers in the exam and treatment of patients. This includes documenting patient information, performing various tests, and providing patient education under the direction of eye care providers.
Responsibilities
- Assist eye care providers in the exam and treatment of patients
- Document patient information, including history and exam findings
- Perform visual acuity measurement, color vision testing, lensometry, keratometry, tonometry, and other patient services as requested by providers
- Act as a scribe by documenting clinically relevant interactions and dialogue during patient visits
- Provide patient education under the direction of eye care providers
- Assist with minor surgery procedures and laser treatments
- Maintain surgical instruments and complete requests for prescription refills as authorized by providers
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent required; 10 years of work experience may be considered in lieu of education
- One year of healthcare experience preferred
- Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) certification from the International Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology (IJCAHPO) or the Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology (JCAHPO) required

Compensation
This is a full-time position with a salary range of $45,000 to $60,000 per year, depending on experience. The estimated hourly rate is $22-$29 per hour, based on a 40-hour workweek.
