Fairfield University seeks a skilled Craft Mechanic to perform a variety of maintenance and repair tasks for its campus buildings and facilities. The successful candidate will have a strong background in carpentry, general maintenance, and incidental painting, with excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
Key Responsibilities- Perform routine maintenance and repairs on campus buildings and facilities, including carpentry, painting, and appliance maintenance.
- Respond to work requests from staff and students, assessing problems and determining appropriate corrective methods.
- Interact with staff and students to determine the problem, assess the situation, and determine the best course of action.
- Maintain mechanical operations in each facility, including carpentry, general maintenance, and incidental painting.
- Assist other departments with tasks such as removing ceiling tiles and opening walls.
- Provide emergency service during, before, and after hours.
- Ensure the quality and timely completion of requested services.
- Maintain a daily log of completed repairs and work orders.
- Assist with snow removal and ice patrol processes.
- Assist with unclogging toilets.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Some trade school education or equivalent related experience.
- 3 years of experience in carpentry and general maintenance.
- Demonstrated interpersonal skills.
- Possession of a valid CT motor vehicle license.
- Good physical condition and mobility.
The successful candidate will be required to work in a fast-paced environment, with frequent exposure to inclement weather, heights, and physical demands. The ability to lift a minimum of 50lbs and work on roofs and ladders is essential.
Reporting StructureThe Craft Mechanic will report to the Director of Facilities Management.
Professional DevelopmentThe successful candidate will be expected to participate in staff meetings, communicate effectively with the supervisor, and ensure the proper maintenance of vehicles, tools, and other related equipment.
Workplace SafetyThe Craft Mechanic will be responsible for promoting safe and secure working conditions, performing proper inspections of facilities, maintaining a safe and clean work environment, and wearing safety shoes and uniforms as required.
