Position Overview:

As an Aquatic Resource Specialist, you will play a crucial role in supporting the management of aquatic ecosystems through effective fish culture practices.

Key Responsibilities:


Assist in the daily operations related to the breeding, nurturing, and distribution of various fish species, including Striped Bass, Walleye, and Bluegill. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Operating heavy machinery and small boats.
  • Maintaining and repairing hatchery and farm equipment.
  • Conducting landscaping and upkeep of facility grounds.
  • Keeping precise records of hatchery activities.
  • Providing mentorship and guidance to junior staff.
  • Supporting procurement processes for operational needs.
  • Ensuring the hatchery operates safely and efficiently at all times.
  • Collaborating with other stations and staff as directed.

Additionally, you will engage with the public to promote awareness and participation in state programs related to fishing and aquatic conservation.


Qualifications:


The ideal candidate will possess a solid understanding of hatchery operations, including:

  • Proper handling techniques for fish stocks.
  • Familiarity with hatchery equipment and systems.
  • Knowledge of pond management practices.
  • Skills in construction and maintenance.

Moreover, candidates should demonstrate:

  • Proficiency in operating various types of equipment.
  • Ability to perform physical tasks, including lifting heavy objects.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Capability to work in diverse environmental conditions.

Additional Requirements:


A High School Diploma or GED is required. A valid driver's license is essential. Preferred qualifications include documented experience in aquaculture or agricultural operations. Relevant certifications must be obtained within a specified timeframe after hiring.
