Position Overview:
In this capacity, the Lead

Electronic Systems Engineer will be responsible for the design, initiation, and validation of electrical systems for both current and future Rivian electric vehicles.


This role is highly visible and requires collaboration across multiple functions to influence design decisions, address hardware/software integration challenges, and oversee the entire product development cycle from prototyping to manufacturing.


Key Responsibilities:


Take ownership of hardware design and spearhead the development of the vehicle's electrical systems by constructing comprehensive electronic modules that meet Rivian's standards.

Engage in hands-on design and validation of prototype hardware, refining the design through characterization and troubleshooting of test vehicles to enhance your work


Contribute to the assessment of system failure modes, develop and implement integration and validation plans, and assist in executing these testing strategies.

Work closely with software and integration engineers to ensure that hardware and software integration requirements are thoroughly understood and accurately implemented at all levels, both on the bench and within the system.

Simplify intricate functions and features to their fundamental components using a first principles approach, driving straightforward and structured requirements and production-friendly solutions in collaboration with the broader team.

Participate in safety and reliability assessments and assist in addressing reliability concerns for components, subsystems, and assemblies.

Collaborate with reliability engineers to support Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA) to promote dependable design choices and enhance validation test planning.

Guide technical decisions and steer the team in the appropriate direction.

Adopt a holistic perspective. Recognize the implications of your plans or decisions on the program and customers. Conduct in-depth analyses of technical issues to facilitate data-driven decision-making.

Perform additional duties as required or assigned within the scope of the role.

Qualifications:


Bachelor's degree with 10 years of experience, Master's degree with 8 years, or PhD with 6 years, or equivalent experience in electrical engineering or a related discipline.

Experience in hardware design encompassing analog, digital, and mixed-signal interfaces.

Proficiency with schematic design tools, PCB layout, FPGA development systems, and simulation tools (e.g., Spice, Matlabs, etc.).

Familiarity with C programming and microcontroller peripherals such as SPI, I2C, and various other protocols. Experience collaborating with firmware teams to drive and test hardware requirements.

Understanding of high-speed signal integrity, electromagnetic compatibility (EMC), and other typical regulatory requirements for low-voltage electronics to facilitate cohesive development with the broader engineering team.

Proficient in essential testing and measurement tools (e.g., Oscilloscope, Logic Analyzer, Spectrum Analyzer).

Demonstrated strong creative thinking and problem-solving skills.

Ability to delve deeply into electrical first principles and thrive in fast-paced, challenging environments.

Capacity to collaborate and guide direction through multidisciplinary discussions.

Familiarity with automotive requirements.

Experience in end-to-end product design and development from prototyping to mass production.

A keen eye for detail, coupled with the ability to 'zoom out' and grasp the bigger picture.

Compensation and Benefits:

Salary Range for California-Based Applicants:
$196,000 – $245,000 (actual compensation will be determined based on experience, location, and other factors permitted by law).
