Dance Accompanist

We are seeking a skilled and versatile Dance Accompanist to join our team at Georgian Court University.

Job Summary

The Dance Accompanist will provide live musical accompaniment for Ballet and Contemporary Dance technique classes, collaborating closely with faculty to develop music that enhances dance exercises.

Responsibilities

• Report to the instructor of record for assigned classes.
• Provide live musical accompaniment for each class session.
• Collaborate with faculty to develop music tailored for dance exercises.
• Address any instrument maintenance or tuning needs with the Associate Director of the Arts Program.

Requirements

• Proficiency in Piano, drums, electronic music: Strong ability to play the piano, with experience in accompanying dance classes, particularly Ballet and Contemporary Dance.
• Musical Versatility: Ability to improvise and create music that aligns with various dance styles and exercises.
• Collaborative Spirit: Willingness to work closely with dance faculty to understand and support the specific needs of each class.
• Understanding of Dance Rhythms: Familiarity with the timing and rhythms used in dance, and the ability to adjust music accordingly during live sessions.
• Adaptability: Ability to adjust music to match the dynamics of the class and the needs of the dancers.
• Reliability: Consistent attendance and punctuality for all scheduled classes.
• Communication Skills: Clear and effective communication with instructors and the Associate Director of the Arts Program, particularly regarding any technical or instrumental needs.

Qualifications

• Music Degree or professional experience.
• Experience as music accompanist in University Dance Programs.
