Job Summary

The Respiratory Therapist II PRN is a vital member of the patient care team, responsible for delivering high-quality, patient-centered respiratory care in accordance with the nature and specific requirements of the department. This role involves performing diagnostic tests and therapeutic procedures, monitoring patients receiving invasive and noninvasive mechanical ventilation, and assisting with placement of artificial airways.

Responsibilities
  • Perform and document patient assessment, including breath sounds, airway patency, and cuff pressure.
  • Conduct diagnostic procedures to evaluate the need for, and response to, respiratory therapy.
  • Administer respiratory care therapies, including oxygen delivery, aerosol medication delivery, and chest physiotherapy.
  • Assist with placement of artificial airways and initiate, monitor, and maintain mechanical ventilation.
  • Monitor patient for therapeutic response and notify provider and intervene as appropriate in the event of an unintended response.
  • Assist with transportation of ventilator-dependent patients and respond to emergent patient situations, ensuring airway integrity and adequate ventilation during resuscitation as required.
Requirements
  • Graduate of AMA accredited Respiratory Therapist Program.
  • NBRC accredited RRT (Respiratory Therapist) credential with Current Colorado Respiratory License.
  • American Heart Association or American Red Cross BLS (Basic Life Support), ACLS, PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) required.
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) required if responsibilities include coverage in the neonatal intensive care unit and/or the employee is working as a charge therapist.
  • 6 months previous experience and/or two years recent acute care experience preferred.
  • Must possess and maintain skills to be eligible for staffing in the Intensive Care Units, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, the ER, floor therapy, and provide special procedures.
